A few things to know
  • Transparent backgrounds and color profiles are kept.
  • PNG files are often larger. This tool changes the format rather than shrinking it.
  • Still images only. Animated AVIF and gain maps are not supported yet.
Technical details

Static AVIF only. Animated AVIF, gain maps and non-square pixels are rejected. No resizing, tone mapping or quality reduction. 8-bit sources produce 8-bit PNG; higher precision produces 16-bit PNG. YUV is converted to RGB before PNG encoding. ICC is always preserved; without ICC, source color signaling is preserved in PNG cICP. HDR viewing depends on the viewer supporting that signaling. No fixed file-size, pixel-count or processing-time limit is imposed by this app; format, address space and available device memory still apply. Progress shows processing stages and actual rows written. Cancel ends local processing.

Common questions

Will converting AVIF to PNG make it smaller?

Usually the purpose is compatibility, rather than compression. PNG files are often larger than AVIF. The result shows both file sizes before you download.

Will PNG keep transparency and image quality?

Transparency and color profiles are kept. The converter preserves decoded image precision using 8-bit or 16-bit PNG and corrects image direction. It cannot recover detail already lost when the AVIF was created.

Can I convert animated AVIF?

This tool currently converts still AVIF images only. Animated AVIF and gain maps are not supported. It will report an unsupported file rather than silently dropping its animation.

Will HDR look the same in the PNG?

Supported HDR color information is kept, but appearance depends on the viewer and display. A PNG that opens successfully may still look different in an app without suitable HDR support.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser on your device. Preview the PNG before downloading; if the original AVIF can be displayed, you can compare it with a draggable divider. Read the privacy details.
