Find the size you want. Check every detail.

Runs locally in your browser. No image uploads.

Preparing the image controls…

1 Choose your image

For still SDR images. HDR images, gain maps and animations are not supported yet.

2 Choose the quality

Higher quality usually keeps more detail and makes a larger file. Encoding is lossy, including at 100.

Compare at 100%

The original and result stay at their actual image size. Compare side by side, drag a split line, or switch between the two images.

Advanced options Encoding effort & color detail

Lower values spend more time trying to make a smaller file. Start with 6; very slow settings can take a long time.

4:4:4 can help preserve colored text and sharp color edges. Files may be larger.

A few things to know

This tool creates a new, lossy AVIF from a supported still JPG, PNG or AVIF. Changing format or re-encoding does not guarantee a smaller file. If the result is larger, compare it before deciding which file to keep.

Output uses 8-bit samples. Higher-precision SDR images lose some precision. Transparency is kept; color information and image direction are handled by the converter. HDR images, gain maps and animations are rejected instead of silently reduced to SDR.

The comparison uses your original file and the exact AVIF offered for download. Both views are fixed at 100% image size; large images extend beyond their viewports. Browser and display color support can affect their appearance.

Processing happens on your device. The page and converter need to load before you can use them; this is not an offline installation. Large images and slower encoding settings can need substantial time and memory. You can cancel an unfinished conversion.
